Branch Development:

Please make every effort to attend the Branch Development days 21-22 September 2006.

Suggested plan for Sixth Form and FE members

In our sector, It is essential for each college to elect at least one steward (or job share between two members). Stewards should meet with their members regularly to explore and resolve collective issues. These representatives would then meet on a regular basis with stewards from all the other Surrey FE or 6th form colleges to discuss collective issues e.g. pay claims and implementation of national agreements. Stewards from these sectional committees would agree on a plan of action and send a representative to the branch committee with a recommendation requiring ratification.

Two persons (one must be a woman) should also be nominated by the Surrey FE and Sixth Form college membership to the South East Region Further Education and Sixth Form committee. This regional committee also elects representatives to the National FE and 6th form committee.

The aim is to increase our awareness, confidence, knowledge, and solidarity, strengthen democracy and our voice within the union and our workplaces.

Ultimately, you need to have your say and be heard.

Paid time-off will need to be negotiated for such an increase in activity. Some members will be able to secure agreements quite easily whilst others may require the intervention of branch officers.
