Dates: 26-28 February & 13-14 March 2007
Venue: Central Library in Portsmouth

Local Government Pension Scheme 2 Day Training Course
Everything you need to know about how the scheme works
Come and find out why the LGPS needs UNISON reps - defending and advancing the scheme investments and benefits.
The two-day course will take place on the 23rd and 24th of January 2007 in London.
Everything you need to know about how the LGPS including:
- how it is administered and governed
- your responsibilities as representatives
- investment strategies
- environmental, social and corporate governance
- consulting members of the scheme
- You will also take part in our new -on-line community to further your learning and knowledge and begin networking with other UNISON LGPS reps.

Branch recruitment strategy
At the branch development days mentioned below, a recruitment strategy workshop came up with a range of ideas for recruitment. The notes from this workshop can be found here and should be read in conjunction with the overall summary below.

Surrey Team LGPS Training
Local Government Pension training will take place at the Mandolay Hotel, Guildford from 10am to 4pm on Monday 18 September 2006. The purpose of the training is to prepare branch activists and Pensions contacts for the next stage of the campaign. Register no later than Wednesday 13th September 2006.

'One Step Ahead' course - Guildford area
18-19 October and 16 November 2006 in Guildford. Closing date for applications is 8 September 2006. The 'One Step Ahead' programme is aimed at UNISON's more experienced representatives who last attended a course four or more years ago. The course provides an opportunity to get together with other representatives to share experiences, reflect on current practices and update you on changes in UNISON.
New Stewards Course - Reading area
On 24-26 October 2006. Closing date for applications: 15 September 2006. Course covers the role and function of the steward within the branch and training in communicating, representing and recruiting new members.
